ESPN Classic Salutes Team Canada with its World Juniors Weekend and Gold Medal Marathon, Beginning December 19

Toronto, ON (December 17, 2009) – ESPN Classic gives the gift of hockey this holiday season with its annual World Juniors Weekend on December 19 and 20 and Gold Medal Marathon on December 24 and 25, as the network gears up for the highly-anticipated 2010 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP (see schedule below). From Wayne Gretzky to John Slaney and from Paul Kariya to Sidney Crosby, ESPN Classic has more than 30 hours of vintage World Juniors games showcasing some of Canada’s biggest hockey stars and most memorable triumphs at the tournament.

ESPN Classic’s 18-game schedule includes the tournament-clinching game from the 1991 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP in Saskatoon on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. ET, during which standout junior player Slaney scored the winning goal against Russia. The network also has a classic Canada vs. USA semifinal match-up from the 2007 IIHF WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25, at 1 p.m. ET, featuring shootout heroics from Team Canada forward Jonathan Toews and goaltender Carey Price.
