Toronto, ON (January 20, 2010) – Joining the massive undertaking in the aftermath of last week’s devastating earthquake, international child rights activist Craig Kielburger returns from Haiti to shine a spotlight on the crisis in MUCHTALKS: HAITI, airing Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. ET on MuchMusic. On the ground in Haiti, CTV has joined Kielburger to document his mission. Now, as a pre-cursor to Friday’s multi-network benefit specials CANADA FOR HAITI and HOPE FOR HAITI NOW, Kielburger joins VJ Devon Soltendieck to engage an in-house audience of close to 200 students with first-hand information about the current crisis.

The founder of Free The Children – one of the many charitable organizations recognized by the Canadian government to receive aid in support of Haiti – Kielburger will head straight to the MuchMusic studios to share his story when his return flight lands in Canada. During his time in Haiti this week, Kielburger has been filing reports for CP24, CTV.ca, CTV Newschannel, CANADA AM, ETALK and MuchMusic.
MUCHTALKS: HAITI features Canadian artists with ties to the troubled country, and lets Canadian viewers know how they can help. MTV Live co-host Nicole Holness, Canadian indie rocker Amy Millan, 4REAL’s Sol Guy, and representatives from various NGOs headline the event, sharing their personal stories, and looking at what is next for Haiti. ETALK’s Ben Mulroney also joins in studio to discuss what the entertainment industry is doing to help those recovering from the earthquake.
As part of MuchMusic’s ongoing commitment to keeping its audience informed and socially responsible, this special edition of the Gemini Award-winning MUCHTALKS brings viewers the latest news on the tragedy, the Canadian efforts on the ground and how they can lend a hand. The special highlights exceptional youth that have stepped up to help out and what they are doing. Included are a group of students from Jacmel’s Ciné Institute, documenting the recovery process and sharing their footage throughout the special.
During the special, viewers will be encouraged to visit CanadaForHaiti.com or to call a toll-free number to donate to a coalition of Canadian NGOs raising funds for Haiti, including Canadian Red Cross Society, Care Canada, Free the Children, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Plan Canada, Save the Children Canada, UNICEF Canada and World Vision Canada. Viewers can find out more at CTV.ca/HelpHaiti.
In a show of solidarity with the citizens of Haiti, MuchMusic has lit the exterior of its studios in Toronto in the colours of the nation’s flag.
