TORONTO (September 2, 2010) – From the first puck drop to “the golden goal” and everything in between, Canadians can relive the magic of Vancouver 2010 with the official HOCKEY GOLD 2010 DVD and Blu-ray box set, released today by Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium. Presenting more than 18 hours of the men’s and women’s hockey tournament from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, the box set features the entire men’s gold medal game, which stands as the most-watched television broadcast in Canadian history with 16.7 million viewers. The Consortium was recently nominated for two Gemini Awards for its broadcast of the game.
The commemorative five-disc box set features all seven Team Canada hockey games, plus the women’s gold medal final. All games are shown in their entirety. The HOCKEY GOLD 2010 five-disc box set is bilingual and is available exclusively at HMV, CTVOlympics.ca and RDSolympiques.ca. Each disc is gold in colour.
Narrated in English by Brian Williams and in French by Claude Mailhot, HOCKEY GOLD 2010 also includes pre-game commentary from expert analysts, extended highlights, the victory ceremonies and medal presentations, as well as an exclusive tournament overview that sets the stage for the double gold on home soil.
“Canadians throughout the country jumped to their feet in jubilation when the overtime winner was scored. It was a defining moment for this country,” said Adam Ashton, President, Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium. “When you combine this with the women’s gold medal hockey triumph, Canadians could not have scripted a better ending to Vancouver 2010.”
A special bonus feature called Arena Sound is featured in HOCKEY GOLD 2010, giving viewers the opportunity to experience the sights and sounds as if they were sitting at ice level at Canada Hockey Place, without commentary.
The Consortium delivered the Top 5 most-watched events in Canadian television history during its coverage of Vancouver 2010, three of which were hockey games. The men’s gold medal hockey game peaked at 22 million viewers when the “golden goal” was scored in overtime, while 26.4 million watched some part of the game. Meanwhile, the Canada vs. USA preliminary round game ranks #4 with 10.6 million viewers (Feb. 21) while the Canada vs. Russia quarter-final ranks #5 with 10.5 million viewers (Feb. 24).
